This one-day seminar will cover the philosophy, science and principles of passive self-ligation orthodontics with the Damon System. The seminar provides an educational foundation for doctors and staff members who have never used the Damon System as well as a valuable review for relatively new and intermediate users.

About the Speakers

Dr. Hisham Badawi

Dr. Badawi completed his DDS at the Jordan University, then his MSc at the Eastman Dental Institute, University College London. He acquired the fellowship of the Royal College of Edinburgh. He then took a teaching position as an assistant professor at the University of Manitoba, and then he started his PhD at the University of Alberta in Edmonton Canada. Dr. Badawi currently maintains a busy private practice in Calgary Alberta and is actively involved in orthodontic biomechanics research, he holds a part-time faculty position at the University of Alberta. His work offers some of the most ground breaking research ever seen in the field of orthodontics which will ultimately change the way orthodontics is perceived and practiced.

Dr. Alan Bagden

Dr. Bagden received his dental degree at the University of Pennsylvania and, after several years in general practice, followed with his orthodontic residency at the University of Maryland. Dr. Bagden is an ABO diplomat and has an active, private practice in Springfield, Virginia. He is currently on staff at the Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. as well as Georgetown University Department of Otolaryngology. He has served as president of the Northern Virginia Dental Society, Fairfax County Dental Society and Virginia Association of Orthodontist and on the governing committees of the Southern Association of Orthodontists. He has presented at the AAO annual sessions and has lectured internationally.

Dr. Frank Bogdan

Dr. Bogdan received his dental education at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, graduating in 1973. In 1976, he received his certificate in orthodontics also from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. During his last year of specialty training he served as a Teaching Associate. Dr. Bogdan has guest lectured at the University since 2001 and was appointed to the part-time Orthodontic faculty in 2004, as an Assistant Clinical Professor. Currently, he is president of the UMDNJ Orthodontic Alumni Society, a post at which he has been serving since 1997. Dr. Bogdan is one of 12 certified Damon instructors who have taught and lectured extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia on passive self-ligation with the Damon System. He has been using the system exclusively since 1997. He maintains a very active specialty practice in Bayonne, New Jersey.

Dr. Rafael Garcia Espejo

Dr. Espejo's accomplishments include a Doctor in Medicine and Surgery, Stomatology Specialist, Master's degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics (University of Seville), Lecturer in Oral Health at the University of Córdoba, Member of SEDO (Spanish Association of Orthodontics), AESOR (Spanish Association of Orthodontists), AIO (Latin American Association of Orthodontists), WFO (World Federation of Orthodontists) and Member of the Spanish Division of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. Espejo is the author of various scientific articles, and has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally. He runs his private clinic in Córdoba, where he started using the Damon System in 2001 and is, since the clinical period spent in the surgery of Dr. Damon (Spokane, 2003), the exclusive user of that technique. Dr. Espejo is currently considered one of the pioneers in the system, his experience and prestige being internationally recognized throughout the Damon community, not only in Spain and Europe but intercontinentally.
